A Message from the Executive

September 2020

Welcome to the Lakeshore Minor Basketball Association (LMBA) website. For those of you who are new to LMBA, this message is intended to introduce you to our objectives and operations. With our interactive website we plan to keep players and parents updated with information related to the LMBA house league activities, the LMBA's Ontario Basketball Association affiliated Lakeshore Lynx teams and links to other websites of interest to local basketball enthusiasts. We are planning to post league schedules, standings, news and photographs as the season gets underway.

The objectives of the LMBA are to allow young people within Northumberland County the opportunity to learn the game of basketball, experience some physical activity and have fun in a safe and open environment. Weekly sessions include a mix of “skills and drills” and friendly competition. The league is open to all boys and girls through the ages of 7 to 17.The house league operates on Saturday mornings at Cobourg Collegiate Institute (CCI).

This year, due to COVID 19, unfortunately we have had to place our entire program on hold until we are able to secure indoor gym permits as well as move to stage 4 of the Return to Play Plan.

Typically, The U10 Division (ages 7-9) will run between the hours of 9:00 and 10:30 am.

The U12 Division (ages 10-11) will run between the hours of 10:30 am and 12:00 noon.

The U14 Division (ages 12-13) will run between the hours of 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm.

The U17 Division (ages 14-16) will run between the hours 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

Consideration will be given to overage players based on skill level appropriate to the division.

Participants are encouraged to play in a division in which they are most comfortable should it move them outside of the specified age range.

Youth 16 years of age and older are encouraged to register with the option of payment at a later date. The LMBA will look at options for this age grouping should there be enough registrants.

LMBA also sponsors a number of age category-based teams known as the Lakeshore Lynx that participate on a competitive basis with other affiliated clubs under the auspices of Basketball Ontario. Last season the Lynx organization operated a Bantam (Under 14) Girls Team, a Midget (Under 16) Girls team, and a Midget (Under 16) Boys team. This season we anticipate the addition of 2 or 3 more rep teams. Continue to watch our website and/or follow us on facebook (Lakeshore Basketball) for updates. We welcome any interested parents/guardians wishing to help start up other rep teams or to get involved to please contact our administrative team.

Like any organization of this type, the LMBA depends entirely on the participation of volunteers to organize and carry out the various business and competition activities. The LMBA is always in need of fresh blood to take on roles on the Executive Committee and to assist in other ways. Any interested persons should feel free to contact us using the contact information provided through the Contacts link or by approaching any of the organizers during Saturday morning sessions.

We welcome each of you to LMBA and wish you all an enjoyable season.

Paul Allen,

Lakeshore Minor Basketball Association
